Photography Business: What Is Photography?
Friday, March 12th, 2010    Subscribe To Our FeedPurely aesthetic, practical or functional, photography lies somewhere between art and science. Many businesses (like home photography business) depend on photography and the entire written media is supported by photo materials of events. People’s access to information would be incomplete without photography and everything that it brings. There is also great pleasure in photography and we tend to delight in the technological availability of means to take pictures with.
The start of photography can be tracked back to the camera obscura’s discovery in the antiquity. For a long period of time, photography depended on films for the image forming device. As a recording medium, the film is now considered obsolete in comparison with the great achievements and possibilities of digital technology. A latent image is being created on the film, and then it becomes usable when it has been chemically processed in the studio.
We can hardly mention all the usage of photography for very long lists. Pictures are used for scientific evidence, in fact, together with recorded videos, they become the main proof in support or contradiction of a certain event. Photography has military, forensic, archaeological, geographical, recognition and data storage applications. Personal documents always include photos, and this is theĀ main way of recognizing identity. Other than these official applications, there is the entertainment side of photography that can’t be ignored.
The average mobile phone user takes photos with the cellular. And we want to use photography to capture special moments and turn them into memories. There is no baptism or wedding without video recording and photo shooting. Or, consider for instance traveling, we will inevitably take at least one camera with us on our journey.
There is one other side of this photography that is, in a sense, less of a photography business, but this falls into the realm of art… and there is hardly anything commercial about it. Photographers with international recognition have photography exhibitions in famous art galleries. The camera thus captures emotions, gives a unique touch to reunions, celebrations and ceremonies, making things look much brighter when seen in retrospect. Artistic photos oppose everything that is practical or commercial: they have not direct functionality other than to delight and send a message to the viewer’s heart.
